Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) announced that there was a $800M decrease in Part B spending in 2005 as compared to 2004. They attribute this to a shift to an Average Sales Price payment system for physician-administered pharmaceuticals, coupled with declining prescription volumes. Serious medication errors occur 1.5 million times a year in the U.S., says an Institute of Medicine study sure to stir renewed demands for changes in medicine.

Medication errors occur 1.5 million times a year, with each having the potential for serious injury, reports the Institute of Medicine (IOM).
