Physicians can expect a 10% reduction in Medicare Payments in 2008, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Legislation that was passed on December 20th eliminated the 2007 reductions in the Physician Fee Schedule.

2007 OIG Work plan

Earlier this week, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) announced a work plan, outline 25 hospital-related investigations planned for 2007.

In addition to the announcement, OIG offered guidance where regulators will be focused. One area of particular interest is the performance of surgery designated “Inpatient Only” which are being performed in outpatient facilities. Other areas receiving attention include the medical appropriateness of DRG coding and the use of diagnostic imaging in Emergency Rooms.
